Original Online Hockey League - two openings available

The Original Online Hockey League has two openings for knowledgeable hockey fans to take over ownership of a team. We're a classic rotisserie style league. There are no head-to-head matchups or daily/weekly decisions on who to play or who to bench. Instead, you're in the role of the GM.

The league standings are based on 8 stat categories and are posted weekly so you'll know how you're doing in each area. We have online meetings every Sunday evening where you can drop and add players. Injury replacements can be made at any at any time by mail; same with trades.

Like any GM, you'll have to deal with salary caps and players wanting raises every few years.

If you want, you can keep a small "AHL" squad of players not yet in the NHL but who you think will make it to the big time. If they do, you can promote them and keep them at low salaries initially. We have an Entry Draft on September 24 for team owners who want to stock an AHL squad. Our regular season auction is held in October each year right after the NHL season opens. The current teams are available because the owner either didn't respond to emails or decided to drop out.

We're not one of those fly-by-night leagues that will fold up by mid-season. We had our first draft in 1987 and have been running non-stop ever since.

There's a fee, all of which goes to providing trophies to winners, but it's waived for first year owners. Think of it as a test drive.

Interested? Check the league web site at oohlhockey.com, where you'll find rosters, rules, etc., or contact me for more information. The available teams are the Edmonton Bloodhounds and Kansas City Kings. Neither one made the playoffs last year, but both made it in 2016. The Kings have the better roster on paper (start with Stamkos, Tarasenko, Johansen, and Pietrangelo), but were undone by injuries and goaltending last season. The Bloodhounds lack the name players and firepower, but they do have some netminding (Vasilevskiy) and they will have a HUGE pile of money available for the league draft auction (probably more than anyone else) in October. So it's not like you'd be inheriting the league chumps, regardless of which one you select.
